The Hardware Gallery has expanded. Everyone who has witnessed the mayhem over the last 2 years and for those slackers who have not – now is your chance to see how the Enmore Kr3w gets down. There have been a number of changes including: -

Expanded gallery – doubling the floor space of the gallery with new displays for current stock and larger more ambitious exhibitions.

Record Room – thousands of used vinyl records for sale at awesome prices inside the coolest custom built room of all time.

Bar – the most impressive place to rest between hectic art viewing and dazzling conversation with the 3nmor3 Kr3w.

Art services – all of our existing art services remain. Sydney’s finest, friendliest and organised framing, canvas stretching and art installation service.

The beer garden – will remain open for the members of the 3nmor3 Kr3w.

The Hard Core exhibition has kicked off the festivities with both galleries filled with fresh new work by 12 of the finest young local artists. You will see work from Seth Birchall, Nicholas Fintan, Ray Firth, Philip Hannaford, David Hickson, Keith Looby, Rodney Monk, Andrew McNeill, Josonia Palaitis, David Perry, Sandi Rigby & Yuri Shimmyo.

Australian Film Syndicate is launched

It’s hard for small Australian films to pick up a distributor at the moment, but the launch of a new film distribution business is cause for hope. The Australian Film Sydnicate (AFS) is the brainchild of Dungog Film Festival proprietors Allanah Zitserman & Stavros Kazantzidis, along with ex-Triple J film guru Peter Castaldi.

The business will only deal with Australian content, with all films being handled digitally. The first film to be distributed by AFS will be Christopher Weekes’ critically acclaimed debut feature Bitter & Twisted. Followed by Ian Hamilton’s Honeymoon in Kabul.

The Darryl Beaton Band – From the Ground Up!

The Darryl Beaton Band is undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts to come out of Australia. Two Flat Whites caught the show last night at The Basement.

Armed with an arsenal of thought provoking songs and mind blowing musicianship, this band will effortlessly have your head nodding with their unique sounds. With music that speaks profoundly to a universal audience, they take listeners on a journey through soul, latin, jazz and reggae vibes. This band offers a satisfaction guarantee!

The group formed after Darryl united with musical counterparts ‘Martinez’ in 2005; leading to the 3 eldest Martinez brothers infusing Darryl’s music with their unique Australian-Chile flavour.

Born into music as the son of a drummer father and singer mother, Darryl has performed since the age of 5; most affluently on piano, but also as skillful on guitar, drums and bass. This has led him to be one of the few musicians with a truly extensive history in the Australian music industry. He has performed with such notable artists as; Harry Connick Jnr, Chris Isaak, KC & JoJo, Ronny Jordan, Thelma Houston, Teddy Geiger, Jewel, Human Nature, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll, Deni Hines, Robyn Loau, Paulini, Christine Anu, Amy Pearson and Jade MacRae – most of which he also presided as Musical Director.

His most recent accolades include recording with 5x Grammy Award Winner, Kanye West and Mig Ayesa of Rockstar INXS fame. In April of 2008 the band went on tour in Japan, with an amazing response and feedback from Japan. Because of the amazing response in the April 2008 tour the band has been scheduled for a new tour of Japan in November, this time taking them to the cities of Tokyo and Osaka.

Fashions In The Fest

Visitors to the opening weekend on September 20th of the Munich Oktoberfest, or d’ Wiesn  as its known locally, did their best to live up to the festival’s proud traditions by guzzling 450,000 litres of beer and devouring 11 oxen.  This was just the beginning of the world’s biggest party, which attracts over 6 million people to Bavarian Germany every year for sixteen days.

Oompah bands filled the tented beer-halls with rustic good feeling and the waitresses in their Dirndl dresses lugged fistfuls of one-liter glasses of beer (known as Mass) through the thirsty crowds, leaning closest to the historical significance of the outfit than anyone else in attendance. After all, the “dirndl” was originally no more than the undergarment of a maidservant.  In recent years the fashion stakes at Oktoberfest have become as much a part of the experience as the Mass of beer and the obligatory pretzel.  This year, more than ever, punters (both men and women) are wearing the Bavarian traditional costume or Tracht as it’s known.
