Prey – Natalie Bassingthwaighte

Prey tells the story of six friends who head to the outback on a four-wheel drive adventure and come face-to-face with an ancient supernatural evil.  The three couples drive into a sacred site where they unknowingly awaken a 5000 year-old curse. Inspired by true unsolved events, Prey follows the group of 20-something’s into a vortex of serpentine fear; afterlife and psychological confrontations that make them question what is real and what is imagined.

Starring Aussie superstar Natalie Bassingthwaighte and US heart-throb Jesse Johnson, Prey is Bassingthwaighte’s first feature film. Of the experience, she says she embraced the challenge immediately and is looking forward to seeing it in cinemas. “I really enjoyed the opportunity and challenges of making my first film; I can’t wait to see it on the big screen. Prey is targeted towards teenagers but it easily appeals to anyone who enjoys thrillers. “This was my first film, so as an actor you tend to pocket your own instincts and rely more on the advice and vision of the film maker. Making Prey was a great experience and I hope it’s well-received,” says Bassingthwaighte.

Filmed in Victoria and central Australia, the film stars Natalie Bassingthwaighte as Kate, Jesse Johnson (Nash Bridges (with father Don Johnson), Redline) as Gus, and in supporting roles, Christian Clark (Squid and Gabriel) as Jason, Natalie Walker as Ling, Ben Kermode as Matt, Kristen Sargent as Annika, with guest appearances by the legendary Nicholas Bell, Dawn Klingberg and world poker champion, Joe Hashem.

Prey premieres in cinemas on the 5th May in Sydney and on the 7th May in Melbourne. The movie will run for a strictly limited season at selected cinemas throughout Australia ahead of the film’s DVD release.

Oh what a surpirse u r all going to get when u actually see this film- it is the worst aussie film ever made!

  • Stephanie says:

I’d be interested to know who you are James and what influence you think you have. If you didn’tget what the filmmaker was trying to do, then you are quite said. And I’m sorry, but you forget The Black Balloon…it IS the WORST Australian film ever made…at least Prey has an ending.

  • Simon says:

Clearly James doesn’t need an influence, Stephanie. The terrible reviews (half a star, in the Age!), utterly pitiful box office takings and tepid public response suggest the film is far from something special…. whereas the Black Balloon is a critical success, and financially recouped the cost sepnt making it.

Maybe the filmmaker was “trying” to do something. He fell far short, and released the film under a pseudonym. Everyone knows this is the biggest stinker in 2009. Don’t get me started on Bassingthwaighte’s accent.

This is film is the worst aussie film that ever got through to marketing thats for sure. Most aussie failures just end up dying in obscurity.

Don’t get caught up in the hype about this one it should never have been seen.

attempted to watch the new australian horror “prey” hmm loves the video piracy warning at the start .. stating that we all love to see a great australian film .. well if this is the standard of an aussie film im disgusted its that bad its n…ot even laughable .. god we make shit films its embaressing knowing this is even being sold over seas .I guess thats one way to safe gaurd against illegal movie downloads .. just make the movie that bad u wouldint waste a meg on it ..

  • Andrew says:

The hype about this one was big…too bad the movie stank! Pathetic dialogue, obvious amateur mistakes and a confusing, rather stupid storyline makes this a 1/2 star movie. The only reason you should watch it is to laugh at how pathetic it is, or check out Nat’s lesbian scene. ;)

  • liss says:

i have to aggree that this movie is really bad, i got it thinking it would be good but no. The acting was really crap and the ending what a joke!!

  • DonnyRix says:

This is by far one of (if not THE) worst Australian films ever made. It all began when the original director walked out and asked that his name not be associated with the movie. The storyline is moronic, the acting pathetic and just about everything else is so amateurish that it’s hard to believe it cost over $4 million to make!

For anyone who hasn’t seen this movie, do yourself a favour and stay well clear! I read in the newspaper that the Producer Bobby Galinsky is facing court for having ripped investors off. Don’t get ripped off as well.
